The Breath We Share – Alan Gerard
The Breath We Share
We share the same air and fear the same virus and need each other
We raise a flag
among a multitude,
to share with human kind:
To seek and save the ill
who lie cocooned
by day, by night,
beside white martyred nurse,
a nightingale.
Aware of every breath we take of oxygen:
a spirit that we share
with every child new born
on Planet Earth.
Yet we forget this kith and kin
and run alone on sands of time;
invulnerable;
until we slip unshod
to tumble break.
and find our sister, brother.
